Gulf Shores Histrorical Facts & Background

Gulf Shores is a coastal city in Baldwin County, Alabama, USA and is part of Daphne-Fairhope-Foley micropolitan area. As a captivating seaside resort it is devoted entirely to beachfront tourism and vacation accommodation. Gulf Shores is served by Jack Edwards Airport.

Gulf Shores beaches are known for their bright, sugar white quartz sand. Although slightly abrasive it feels powdery soft and comfortable to the feet. The Gulf of Mexico waters along the beachfront have an emerald green tint. Gulf Shores has a shallow lagoon called Little Lagoon located along the western beach.

It was in 1699 that the French explored Alabama’s Gulf Coast to discover Dauphin Island and Mobile. Museums in small towns located here are replete with the fascinating history of the area. Most towns are 10 miles apart and this was because the railroad lines got laid out in a grid to transport the potato farmers’ harvest.

In winters Gulf Shores becomes a haven for Snowbirds arriving here from Midwestern states. The entire Gulf Shores area is on with a building boom ever since it got designated a Go Zone.
